History of Tukuche Peak Expedition
Even though the Tukuche peak expedition is less talked about, this particular peak was first climbed 5 decades ago. It was in 1969 Tukuche peak was first clmbed.
The expedition was performed by Hugh Merrick, who hails from Switzerland. Hugh, along with his other team members, was able to complete this climb. Climbing this peak wasn’t easy at all.
It took the Swiss team more than 4 years to actually prepare, practice, and plan the overall climb. Since 1969, the peak has been open to others for climbing, too.
Climbing Strategy For Tukuche Peak Expedition
The routes and climbing strategies for the Tukuche Peak expedition are plain and simple. All the climbers will start the journey from Beni and progress towards Tatopani.
With proper guidance from The Trek Nepal, we will be pushing for Ghasa, Tukuche Gaon, Marpha, and onto Yak Kharka. The next stop will be the Tukuche base camp, where we will rest and prepare.
After proper practice and everything is set, we will head to the top of Tukuche Peak. Later, we head down to Marpha and Pokhara. Accimatization is the key concept in this trek, and we can take proper care of it too.
Is the Tukuche Peak Expedition Difficult?
One of the key questions that gets asked is whether the Tukuche peak expedition is tough or not. Well, technically, climbing this peak is tough. But it is never too hard compared to other 8000m peaks.

Food and Accommodation During the Tukuche Peak Expedition

Detailed Itinerary For Tukuche Peak Expedition
Day 1: Arrival in Kathmandu and Transfer to Hotel
The first day of the trek is all about arriving in Kathmandu. A member from Trek Nepal will be present at the airport to receive you.
You will be placed at your respective hotel and have the right opportunity to visit the city. The city tour will be provided by the expert guide.
Day 2: Sightseeing in Kathmandu
We will be performing the sightseeing activity in Kathmandu for the 2nd day. The shopping for the Tukuche peak expedition will also be done on the same day. There will be UNESCO World Heritage sites all around for exploring and enjoying.
When the trekkers enjoy the valley, The Trek Nepal will arrange all the required permits for the trek. Some last-minute shopping can also be done if needed.
Day 3: Drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara
Finally, the Tukuche peak expedition starts with the drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara. It will be a 5-hour driving journey, whereby you will reach Pokhara.
Passing through the beautiful landscapes, river, and forest, we will reach the beautiful city of Pokhara. Pokhara is the center of all the tourist attractions, and you have an opportunity to roam the lakeside in the evening.
Day 4: Fly to Jomsom and trek to Yak Khrakha
After spending the night in Pokhara, we take an early morning flight to Jomsom. It is an important hub for the Mustang and Upper Mustang trek. Upon landing in Jomsom, we start our trek.
First, we will reach Marpha, which is also called the Apple Garden. An exciting journey awaits us as we move ahead. A steep ascent from there means that we will be arriving at Yak Kharka by the end of the day.
Day 5: Rest and Acclimatization at Yak Kharka
The Trek Nepal understands that acclimatization is key when we trek to the higher altitudes. Having said that, the 5th day of the Tukuche peak expedition is all about rest and acclimatization.
It will be some easy hikes for the day, and rest at the respective hotels. Trekkers will also spend time with the locals, understanding their way of life and culture.
Day 6: Trek from Yak Kharka to Hidden Valley
A day of proper rest at Yak Kharka means that we will be moving ahead with the trek. First, we will touch down in the Kali Gandaki Valley and move ahead. It is also the deepest gorge in the world.
Moving ahead in the trek, we will touch down at Dhampus Pass, which is at an altitude of 5240m. It is also called the Thapa Pass. Slowly, we descend to reach the Hidden Valley and stay the night.
Day 7: Rest day at Hidden Valley
Hidden Valley lies at an altitude above 5000m, so it is important that we acclimate better to the present location. For the day, we do small treks and hikes around the region.
We will get to the western ridge, where there will be beautiful views of Dhaulagiri, Annapurna, Nilgiri, and other mountain peaks all around. By the late evening, we went to our teahouse for the night.
Day 8: Trek from Hidden Valley to Tukuche Base Camp Peak
Yes, it’s the big day of the Tukuche Peak expedition as we hit the base camp today. The early morning breakfast will mark the way to the short trek now. Slowly, we will be moving ahead to reach an altitude of 5640m.
This will be the base camp where we will spend the night. The Sherpa crew from The Trek Nepal will make all the arrangements for the trek. From setting up camps to getting the food ready, it will be much easier and as expected.
Day 9-19: Climbing to Tukuche peak and returning to base camp
A period of 10 days, which will be the defining moment of the Tukuche peak expedition. We will prepare and practice for the trek, along with moving ahead with the requirements.
Several camps will be set before going to the top. The experienced Sherpa guides will prepare you with all the training and the move to the top.
After 10 days of the overall period, we will be at the top. There will be mountain views of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri mountain ranges. Plenty of tall mountains will be right around. As we spend some quality time at the top, we will return to the base camp.
Day 20: Trek back to Hidden Valley
A beautiful experience will slowly move backwards. Yes, we will head back to Hidden Valley for the time being. The Tukuche peak will be climbed successfully, and we will head down below.
It will be a 4-hour trek to the bottom of the Hidden Valley. Some of the beautiful mountain views, along with brilliant views, we will be at Hidden Valley by the end of the day.
Day 21: Trek from Hidden Valley to Yak Kharka
In a span of two days, we will be coming down from 5000m to 3600m. Tukuche peak expedition is slowly but surely coming towards a close. The steps from Hidden Valley will be retraced.
First stop for the day will be the Dhampus pass. Crossing through the Dhampus pass, we will head down to the Kaligandaki gorge, which is the deepest gorge in the world. The journey ahead will be about 4-hour trek down to Yak Kharka.
Day 22: Trek from Yak Kharka to Jomsom
The Trek Nepal will plan the overall trek in the right manner. On the 22nd day, we will be targeting Jomsom by the end of the day. Technically, this will be the last day for the Tukuche peak expedition.
From Yak Kharka, we will turn down to Jomsom and move ahead with it. First, we will reach Marpha, and slowly we will reach Jomsom. The evening will be spent in Jomsom, celebrating the overall experience.
Day 23: Flight to Pokhara and a day off
Early in the morning, we will have the flight to Pokhara. It will be a short flight with the most beautiful views. As soon as you land in Pokhara, you will be transferred to your hotel.
A guide from The Trek Nepal will take you on the tour in Pokhara. It will be an exciting journey as we move ahead around the lakeside, enjoying the beauty and the view at the same time.
Day 24: Drive back to Kathmandu
Yes, things will come to an end now. The drive from Pokhara to Kathmandu will mark the formal end to the Tukuche peak expedition. It will be an 8-hour drive from Pokhara.
From mountain peaks to rivers, and from landscapes to lush greenery, there will be scenic moments even during the road trip. We will reach Kathmandu by midday.
Day 25: Departure for the home nation
Finally, the day has arrived when you will be heading to your home country. After spending 24 days on the beautiful Tukuche Peak expedition, we will head back to our destination.
