History and Significance of the Tilicho Peak Expedition
The beautiful history of the Tilicho peak expedition dates back to 1978. For the very first time, the Tilicho peak expedition was done by French climber Emanuel Schmutz, who reached the top of Tilicho peak.
Standing at 7134m, it was tough to ascend for the very first time. Specifically on 8th October, 1978, Emanuel was able to open doors for others to explore the Annapurna region and also to conquer the more challenging peaks in the Annapurna region.
With the doors being opened through the Tilicho peak expedition, all the international tourists had the chance of seeing the incredible beauty and challenge of the Himalayas. Besides the peaks, you will also find other beauties.
The local community, along with the Tilicho Lake, is a natural essence in itself. You will also find historical value and attractive standpoints in the Tilicho peak expedition. But fair to say physical and cultural challenges are a real thing.
How hard is the Tilicho Peak Expedition?
When we talk about the difficulty of the Tilicho Lake expedition, it is a difficult trek. You will have to be physically fit and mentally strong if you want to complete the trek. Still, The Trek Nepal with the experienced team will guide you right through the journey.
Being mountain fit, as we spend 2 weeks in the mountains, is the key. Every ounce of your strength, stamina, awareness, and fitness will be required.
Climbers will have to trek a minimum of 7 hours every day before attempting to climb the mountain. Eventhough you will be trained, mental strength will be the key.
Cardiovascular training, like running, swimming, and cycling, along with endurance and strength training, will be required if you want to complete the overall climb.
Before hitting the actual climb of the mountain, you will be trained well by the experts. Not the toughest climbs in the world, a 7000m climb will demand plenty of courage and strength to complete.
What experience do climbers need to climb Tilicho Peak? Are guides necessary?
There are a lot of questions that arise when we talk about the experience required for the Tilicho climb. Just to make it very clear, making it to the top of any 6000m peak before will be very helpful for you.
Besides, you will also need to have a variety of technical peak climbing skills that will be required. It doesn’t matter whether you have aced 6000m peak in Nepal or outside of Nepal; both of them will be counted as experience.
All the climbers will be trained by the expert guides from The Trek Nepal. The training includes more physical and mental courage to complete the beautiful climb.
Climbers need to have good knowledge of hiking and climbing using crampons. If you can do it on snow, ice, or a steep surface, the training will be easier and quicker. You will have to climb through spurs, so the use of crampons is a must.
Other than the crampons, climbing gear, basic rope techniques like knot tying, abseiling while coming down, and the mental toughness to beat the cold and windy conditions in the Tilicho Peak expedition will be required. As the climb is rated 4 for toughness, we can say this climb isn’t for intermediate climbers.
Similarly, when we talk about the local guides, well, Nepal Tourism Board states that guides are key. Any peak that goes beyond 6000m must have a local guide or expert who can take you through.
Not only will the guide be your friend, but also your protector in the unknown barrens. But as you connect with The Trek Nepal, we will help you find a good guide and all other necessary permits. Without a doubt, the experience will be safe and easier.
Tilicho Peak Expedition Cost & Itinerary
A massively difficult question to answer is the cost of the Tilicho peak expedition. The toughness can be known by the fact that there are various factors that impact the overall cost. From the number of people in the group to the day of the year, the cost varies.
The journey for the trip with The Trek Nepal starts from Kathmandu. After spending the day in Kathmandu, we move towards Chamje and slowly through to Marsyangdi Khola. Proper acclimatization and drinking enough water are the keys to such journeys.
Our team will move slowly with breaks at places like Manang, Tilicho Peak Base Camp, and other required places. Upon arriving at the base camp, we will be welcomed, and the Sherpa guides will start their training for us.
After we complete the final gear check and the health conditions, we will push for the Tilicho peak expedition. As the leaders of the climb move ahead, all you have to do is follow their lead.
Moving on the journey, we will get views of mountains like Annapurna, Dhaulagiri, along with the Kali Gandaki gorge as well. Retracing the steps, we will be heading towards Kathmandu and our respective homes.
In like manner, if you are thinking about what the cost would be, it is better to connect with The Trek Nepal. As there is customised package creation, things could be much easier.
Food During Tilicho Peak Expedition
The quality and the type of the food we consume keep on changing the higher the altitude we gain during the Tilicho peak expedition increases. During your stay in Kathmandu, you will be treated to a variety of cuisines and the best food.
However, as we gain altitude, climbers will be living in a minimalistic environment. As a result of that, the quality of food changes. From teahouses to base camps and basic lodges, the stay will be simpler the more remote we go.
As we hit the base camp, the team will have cooks who will prepare food for them. In order to provide the right amount of energy for the trek, we will have carbohydrate-dominant food.
There will be 3 meals during the day. One in the morning, the second on the route, while the third will be at the place of stay. From the staple food of Nepal like Dal, Bhaat, Dhido, Momo, etc, to bread, toast, jam, and herbal tea, you will find everything that will be needed.
The Trek Nepal assures you that all the guests will be provided with the best food available to consume. After we hit the 5000m mark, the appetite for hunger gets less, so you have to push the food with some force. Other than the food, water is the key.
A lot of the water will be going out of the body through sweat and urine, so drinking enough water is key. A minimum of 4-6 liters every day for 30 days will be required. Lack of water could cause dehydration, along with dizziness and often vomiting.
Talking about food, never consume drinks or smoke, as it impacts your respiratory system. You might find it hard to breathe at a higher altitude, which is an issue. Similarly, dont try and copy the Sherpa guides as they are experts in what they do.
Accomodation During Tilicho Peak Expedition
As we complete the discussion of food, similar things might happen with accomodation as well. Staying in Kathmandu will be the most luxurious one, while you will have to adjust when we move to the remote trails.
Most of the stay will be at the tea houses with the most basic facilities. Not only are those rooms used on a shared basis. The cost might be less, but the facilities need to be looked out for.
Although there is the option of private accomodation but this will only increase the charge. Staying at the camps set up by the Sherpa could seem tough. However, other accommodations are the easier ones.
Along with the shared beds, you will also have blankets and hot showers in the morning. If you are willing to use the internet or charge your phone, there is an extra amount that needs to be paid.
The Trek Nepal assures you that all the guests will be receiving the best services available in the area. As you will be living with the local communities, there will be a social network and bonding mass.
