Kanchenjunga expedition is one of the toughest climbs in the world. Based on the technical challenges that come along the way, Kanchenjunga is made up of 5 great treasures of snow. These 5 peaks that make up Kanchenjunga are Kanchenjunga I, Kanchenjunga West, Kanchenjunga South, Central, and Kangbachen.
Interestingly, Kanchenjunga Mountain is located in some parts of Nepal and India. It is bordered by the Tamor River in the west, the Lhonak Chu and Jongsang La Pass in the north, and the Tista River, India, in the east.
You might be surprised to know, but Kanchenjunga in the east is also the tallest mountain in India. The name Kanchenjunga is made up of two words. They are Kanchen and Dzonga.
The meaning of these words is the 5 treasures of god, referred to as salt, gold, turquoise, and precious stones, sacred scriptures, invincible armour of ammunition, grain, and medicine. All the treasures are hidden at the moment, according to the local Lhopo people.
There are plenty of high-altitude mountains in Nepal. But the Kanchenjunga expedition is one of the toughest in the world. The major reason is the frequent snowstorms and the avalanches that take place in the mountains. Being the third tallest mountain, altitude sickness is also another major concern.
Being the 3rd highest mountain, though, you will have a chance to see other beautiful mountains when you reach the top. For all The Trek Nepal climbers, we will be pushing from the south face. You will find a technical ascent over the rock and ice.
Eventhough the journey to the top is tricky, the last 1500m is a straightforward climb, making the final push a bit easy. There is massive variation in the topography that you will find during the Kanchenjunga expedition. Zemu, Kanchenjunga, Yalung, Talung, and Ramtang glaciers drain from the mountain.
You will be surprised to view all of these glaciers right in front of your eyes. If you are thinking of the climb, proper acclamitization is the key. The serious altitudes will make things tougher, so we suggest you get to the top with better practice.

Not only are the trails of Kanchenjunga blessed with rhododendron forest at this period. Rainfall and snowfall are minimal, reducing the chances of avalanches.
But even if you choose the right weather for the climb and trek, you will need to be physically fit and mentally strong to complete the trek. So pack your bags.
Climbing Mt Kanchenjunga
Readers might be confused to know, but the Kanchenjunga expedition is termed to be tougher than Everest, which is highly surprising.
With the fixed route of the Everest expedition, the climb to Kanchenjunga is tough due to the uneven terrain. It’s tricky and challenging at the same time, and you could find avalanches all along the journey.
To be safe and complete the trek safely, you will have to choose a trustworthy agency like The Trek Nepal. We have performed the Kanchenjunga expedition for a very long time. With professional climbing guides and expedition leaders, the journey does look simple.
There is no assurance of weather, climate, and even snowstorms, so we suggest you choose an agency with highly experienced climbing Sherpas and guides, which could result positively.
Physical Fitness Preparation For Kanchenjunga
You might climb any 8000m peak, and you will need to be fit. Intermediate or beginner hikers will find it impossible to complete the trek. Trekking for more than 8 hours every day for almost 2 months requires a great amount of strength and dedication.
Always start with basic running drills to get your body at pace. This particular running exercise helps you build hiking stamina. Similarly, try and discuss the best routes with The Trek Nepal for your body type and fitness, which makes the experience better.
Before going into the Kanchenjunga expedition, always carry the experience of climbing other low-altitude mountains. This helps to build confidence and focus on the bigger goal.
Moreover, a lot of the readers might be thinking that physical fitness is enough. Well, that is a mistake. You will need to be mentally strong, too. Being lost in the wilderness with hardly any people around requires mental toughness.
The Trek Nepal suggests that you respect the mountain. Similarly, always focus on proper acclimatization and also absorb the breathtaking views of the mountains. Invest properly in the equipment and make your overall experience of the expedition more worthwhile rather than a poor one.

As you reach the base camp, the tents and equipment are set up and the training starts right away. Some of the trekkers would say that climbing Kanchenjunga is harder compared to Everest, so the training needs to be dedicated.

Challenges of Mt. Kanchenjunga Expedition
Every mountain is different, and the challenge provided by every mountain is different. But anyone who has climbed Everest would also feel Kanchenjunga a tad bit challenging. The major reason is the sudden change in weather and icefall.
Being the 3rd highest mountain in the world, as we hit the 8000m, the air and the weather change drastically. Nothing can be presumed, which makes the Kanchenjunga expedition more tricky and challenging at the same time.
It won’t be a mistake to say that the Kanchenjunga expedition is technically challenging. But for the extreme adventure lovers, the final result is massively satisfactory. The views and the outcome are so rewarding that you would forget all the issues encountered earlier.
All the terrains of Kanchenjunga Base Camp are rugged, and you will have to trek a minimum of 10 hours until you reach the base camp. Harsh and extreme are the common factors in the Kanchenjunga expedition.
The Kanchenjunga Base Camp is located at 5400m, while the mountain is beyond 8000 m. Fair to say that the final 3000 meters to the mountain is hard. Previous experience, good physical fitness, and proper guidance from The Trek Nepal will take you to the destination.
Altitude Acclimatization
Acclimatization is a key in every trek that goes beyond 50 days. Proper training and taking your time will help you to reach the mountain top and return safely. In order to keep everything on the right track, The Trek Nepal prepares a brilliant package.
A lot of the experts say that crossing the 3000m mark would feel tough on your body. So taking your time, proper rest, and recreation could go a long way.
Similarly, we also focus on the right gain of height every day. Rushing with altitude is risky, so we also adjust the sleeping altitudes and increase them gradually.
Overextension and breathlessness are two things we avoid during the trip. Proper hydration, remaining clean with no bad habits, no excess caffeine, and a good diet full of carbohydrates are what help you beat the altitude.
