Detailed Itinerary Of 20 Days Humla Limi Loop and Hilsa Border Trail

Day 1: Arrival in Kathmandu

The journey to the remote areas of Nepal begins by arriving in Kathmandu on the very first day. The guests will be welcomed by a member of The Trek Nepal as we will receive them at the airport. You will have an opportunity to rest in your hotel rooms.

In the evening, there will be a welcome dinner where we will talk about the details of the Hilsa Border trail. The challenges and the exciting opportunity will also be discussed.

Day 2: City tour and food tasting day

As we complete the early morning breakfast, the team will head to the city. There will be a city guided tour led by The Trek Nepal. We will help the tourists to get around the city, the people, the culture, and the religious sites.

The guests will be in close contact with the culture and tradition of the city. Meanwhile, there will also be a variety of delicacies that will help in fulfilling the hunger right along.

Day 3: Trek preparation and fly to Nepalgung

Early in the morning, we will have breakfast and move along. The Trek Nepal will head for the permits, while the trekkers can perform the last-minute shopping for the trek. After both works are complete, we meet at the common grounds.

The whole of the trekking team will be flying to Nepalgunj today, which is a hour flight. Present at the commercial center of the country, all the trekkers will spend their time at Nepalgunj, ready to move the next day.

Day 4: Fly from Nepalgunj to Simikot

It is on the 4th day of the Hilsa border trail that we will be flying from Nepalgunj to Simikot and start the journey. A 45-minute flight will take the team to Simikot, where the journey actually begins. Even during the flight, you will see some beautiful mountain peaks.

Simikot is the headquarters of Humla and lies beyond the mountains. As a result of that, the changes in the weather can be noticed massively. We will stay the night in Simikot at tented camps or lodges.

Day 5: Trek from Simikot to Dharapori

In the trek of the Hilsa border trail, the actual journey starts on the 5th day. We will start the trek from Simikot with the view to reach Dharapori by the end of the day. First of all, we will descend to the Humla Karnali River, which takes us towards Dharapori.

Meanwhile, you will be walking through the pine forest, small streams, and a suspension bridge over the river. By the time the night falls, we will be at Dharapori looking for the teahouses to stay.

Day 6: Trek from Dharapori to Kermi

Today, we will be touching past the 2600m mark, so the early morning breakfast is the key. We start early in the Hilsa border trail. The first stop for the day is Khagalgaon, which passes through beautiful Chaya Chahahra.

Trekkers will find a steep trail above the gorge of the Humla Karnali River before reaching Kermi. After reaching Kermi, we will dive into some natural hot springs for a relaxing bath. The night will be spent in Kermi itself.

Day 7: Trek from Kermi to Yalbang

5 hours of steep trek awaits us for the day. First trekkers with The Trek Nepal go downhill to cross Salli Khola. There is a suspension bridge that takes us above the Humla Karnali River to the Gompa in Yalbang. This particular Gompa is a sacred shrine for the locals.

The monks living in the area will be ready to welcome you all to the beautiful village. The calm and peaceful environment surrounded by greenery will be the place of stay for the night.

Day 8: Trek from Yalbang to Muchu

Things just get interesting in the Hilsa Border trail as we focus on Muchu for the day. At an altitude of 3210m, we will leave Yalbang at the very first hour of the day. Passing the Karnali River, we reach Yangar as the first stop. Walking slowly, we cross the deep valley at the start.

The massive figure of Humla Karnali will be right around you, providing great focus. Lastly, you will be reaching Tumkot by crossing through Muchu. Trekkers will find the Mota Gompa in the region with religious significance.

Day 9: Trek from Tumkot to Yari

The early morning breakfast is a hint that we should keep moving. First, we will ascend slowly to reach a few good climbs. Slow and steady, the ask will be about the changing landscape. Hilsa border trail isn’t as easy as it looks.

The paths become stony and isolated as you pass through the dirty roads. Moving slowly through the small village of Pani Palbang, the team crosses Yari East and West to reach Yari. The whole team will spend the night here.

Day 10: Trek from Yari to Hilsa

It is today that we will touch Hilsa on the Hilsa border trail. First, the crossing of Nara La Pass will show us the way. We head towards the border town of Hilsa now. There are deserted lands now, which might be disappointing.

A few hours of non-stop climbing means that we will get a good view of Mount Kailash. Likewise, we descend along the rocky path only to reach Hilsa, which is packed with religious people for the Kailash Yatra. In the holy environment, we spend the night.

Day 11: Trek from Hilsa to Manepeme

Slowly, we will leave Hilsa to meet the needs of Manepeme. Yes, the Hilsa border trails get massively interesting. First, the bridge above the Humla Karnali river needs to be crossed. Slowly, we will walk the thin track of the Humla Karnali River.

Lastly, we will reach Manepeme, making the journey critical. The uneven trail will take you to the most amazing landscapes, small bushes, and the barren peaks. Surely we will be spending the night at a tented camp in Manepeme.

Day 12: Trek from Manepeme to Til

Today, we will be reaching the highest altitude of the Hilsa border trail. The early sunrise shows we will be moving from Manepeme to Til. Ascending right from the start, we will get through the steep rocks too. By midday, we will leave Humla Karnali and push towards Limi.

Crossing the gorge, we will reach the Limi valley. 6 hours of tough trek means that we will reach Til village. This is the first village in the Limi valley. Ya Yip Phuk is the religious cave of the region. This cave has a great history when it comes to the history of Buddhism.

Day 13: Trek from Til to Halji

We will be heading back towards Kathmandu today. The first step will be from Til to Halji. It will be a descent in the Hilsa border trail. We will cross the Limi River, reaching the leveled ground. There are plenty of Buddhist shrines in the region.

Halji in itself is a massive Buddhist worship spot famous for its major monastery. From plenty of statues to complete Kenjur, you will find a historically important Buddhist culture in the place.

Day 14: Trek from Halji to Jang

On the 14th day of the trek, things get a bit easier. You will be trekking along the path of the Limi River for almost the whole day. Jang, the last village of the Limi River, will be reached. It is a culturally related village with a rich history right around.

As we reach Jang, the journey will be 4 easy hours of trek. There is the presence of an ancient Gompa, which has various colorful paintings of Buddhist deities. All the trekkers will spend the night at the local teahouse.

Day 15: Trek from Jang to Talung

The journey of the Hilsa border trail will leave Limi behind today. Following the early morning trek, we will touch down on Takchhe Khola to reach Talung. Uneven nature is the specialty of this trek as you move up and down many times.

From passing the wooden bridges to the rugged roads and the river, streams, trekkers might find things difficult at times. Trekkers will hardly see any settlement until you teach Talung, where you rest for the night.

Day 16: Trek from Talung to Shinjungma

Probably one of the toughest days in the Hilsa border trail, but also an enjoyable one. The destination for the day will be Shinjungma. Although the journey will only be 8 hours long, you will find issues right along. We will go across the Nyalu La region, which is at an altitude of 5000m.

From this particular spot, you will see mountains like Mount Kailash. The pass will be followed by a steep decline to Selima Tso. Salli River will be following until we reach Shinjungma by the end of the day.

Day 17: Trek from Shinjungma to Kermi

After earning a morning breakfast, we will head down around the Salli River. Uneven solid grounds mean that the journey could be tougher than it seems. Interestingly, you will meet the Humla Karnali river once again.

Following this river along the journey, you will be reaching the likes of Kermi today. A journey of 7 hours with uneven trails could be tiring for you.

Day 18: Trek from Kermi to Simikot

Slowly, we are leaving every part of Hilsa in the Hilsa border trail. Today is the day to reach Simikot with an early morning breakfast. Views for the start could be wonderful, but the journey is harder. Darapor is the first big reach, with Majgaon second.

There are ups and downs right along the way, which is interesting in itself. A rough climb to the uphill of the Humla Karnali river means that you will arrive at Simikot.

Day 19: Fly from Simikot to Nepalgunj and to Kathmandu

There are two flights today as we leave the Hilsa border trail behind. The first flight will be the one to Nepalgunj. A flight of around an hour means that things get easier. Leaving Limi behind, we reach Nepalgunj.

The lunch will be done in Nepalgunj with another connecting flight to Kathmandu at a similar time. By midday, we will be reaching Kathmandu to rest at our respective hotels.

Day 20: Departure for the home country

Finally, the sad day arrives when tourists will be departing for their home country. A member from The Trek Nepal will drop you off at the airport, officially ending the Hilsa border trail.
